Comtech EF Data Announces the Acceptance of Equipment Orders From O3B Networks to Support Multiple Customer Installations

Tempe, Arizona, September 13, 2013 – Comtech EF Data Corporation announced today the acceptance of SatCom infrastructure equipment orders from O3b Networks (O3b) to support multiple O3bTrunk and O3bCell customer installations throughout the African and Asia-Pacific regions. The combination of O3b’s MEO constellation and Comtech EF Data’s advanced modulation and optimization technologies will facilitate high-speed trunking, satellite mobile backhaul and premium enterprise services.

The CDM-760 Advanced High-Speed Trunking Modem, the FX Series WAN Optimization and the NetVue™ Integrated Management System will be supplied to support O3bTrunk applications. The CDM-760 is the industry’s most efficient, highest throughput, point-to-point trunking modem. It accommodates the demanding ISP and telco backhaul links by providing the most advanced space segment saving capabilities while minimizing the need for unnecessary overhead. When used with the FX Series’ traffic shaping and WAN optimization functionality, the satellite links can be further enhanced. NetVue’s flexibility and scalability make it an ideal management platform for small, medium and large networks. Its simplicity and ease of use enables operators to manage networks efficiently and cost-effectively, to manage SLAs and to provide superior customer experiences. The combination of Comtech EF Data’s solution with O3b’s low latency, ultra high capacity constellation will provide the lowest latency and best price per bit for 50 Mbps to 1 Gbps trunking links.

Also ordered to support O3b customer installations is the Advanced VSAT Solutions, which will provide managed high-performance satellite communication solutions for satellite mobile backhaul and premium enterprise services. The portfolio of products incorporates advanced technologies and multi-level optimization that improve operational efficiency, minimize leased bandwidth, reduce remote power consumption and provide the highest spectral efficiency in its class.

John Finney, Chief Commercial Officer of O3b Networks commented, “This powerful O3b and Comtech EF Data partnership provides important benefits to all markets. Fiber speed is combined with satellite reach to meet increasing capacity demands and to provide room to expand in area not feasible with traditional solutions. Operators will be provided with the economics they need to meet growing customer demands for sustainable data services. Additionally, users will be provided with the performance required to fully embrace today’s voice, video and data applications.”

The O3bTrunk products offer latencies faster than long haul fiber with a round trip latency of less than 150 milliseconds and capacities scalable to four times greater than alternative satellite systems. The products provide direct connectivity to the Internet via major content aggregation sites and onward connectivity as required to private corporate networks. O3b’s mobile backhaul offering, O3bCell, allows mobile operators to reach more subscribers economically, significantly improving voice quality while supporting data rates unachievable using conventional satellite solutions.

“The combination of O3b’s innovative MEO constellation and our advanced modulation and optimization will provide outstanding value to our customers, including high capacity, low OPEX and low latency,” said Bob Hansen, Senior Vice President Global Sales for Comtech EF Data.
